There are a number of companies providing software solutions to virus, trojans and Internet worms. It can be really confusing if you compare three different software packages from five different companies trying to find one that suits you best. In this spirit, there are several important things you should consider when choosing antivirus software:

1) How often / fast are the virus definitions up to date. You want the answer would be "anew threat is found ".

2) virus definitions updated automatically by the software? You want to answer is "yes".

3) Can you configure the software to scan for updates when you surf the Internet? You want to answer is "yes".

4) The software is intelligent so it can find viruses it does not even know yet? You want to answer is "yes".

5) Is it possible to scan incoming and outgoing email automatically? You want to answer is "yes".

6) Can you configure it once to make automatic scans of your entire computer on a regular schedule? You want to answer is "yes".

7) Is there a way to "clean" viruses, etc. that exist? You want to answer is "yes".

8) software upgrades automatically, periodically and at no cost? You want to answer is "yes".

There are a few major players in the field, you should know to make an informed decision about what> An anti-virus solution to buy and use. Is Norton Antivirus Trend Micro PC-cillin, and McAfee Antivirus. Sophos and Grisoft AVG is also very good choice. All those antivirus solutions will provide each of the eight points above (and more).

There are a lot of young players on the market also. In many cases they are very good. However, most small players in this market can not afford (yet) to keep up withdevelopment of virus threats. For now, I recommend that away from them. Not because the products they are poor, but simply because they are unable to consistently provide the eight conditions listed above.

The first few days after a new virus appears often when you can do the most damage. The sooner you get an update the better. The big 3 will provide automatic updates to new threats usually within a few days after a new virus is discovered. Sophos and AVG are similar. LessPlayers can take several days to provide updates, which often is not automatic.

That should be enough basic information to help you along the way to choose a good antivirus program. If you want more information first, there is much to be read at http://www. Antivirus-report.com
