AVG is the most popular but I would recommend Avast anti-virus which better definitions, anti-spyware and anti-rootkit built in, faster and more reliable and free:http://www.download.com/Avast-Home-Editi…

Features:
Anti-spyware, Anti-rootkit, Antivirus kernel, Automatic updates, Integrated Virus Cleaner, International Languages, Network Shield, P2P and IM Shields, Resident protection, Simple User Interface, Strong self-protection, Support for 64-bit Windows Systems, System integration, Virus Chest
You could renew your subscription to Kaspersky as it is one of the best anti-viruses avaliable or you could try a free anti-virus some are just as effective.
BEST FREE ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE:
Avast is free and effective, it scans your downloads for viruses (unlike AVG) and also includes anti-rootkit and anti-spyware, it can also run a boot scan.
Avast Anti-Virus: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.ht…
I use Avast along side Comodo Pro firewall on my XP computer both are free and have been independently tested and proven to be more effective then Norton or Mcafee.
Comodo Pro: http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
WHY AVAST IS BETTER THEN AVG
Avast works much better then AVG, on the official AVG website it says that the free version does NOT scan downloads for malicious content where as Avast DOES, whats the point in having anti-virus software that can’t prevent viruses from being download.
The Kapersky will keep working but you won’t be able to download updated virus definitions, which means you’ll be vulnerable to new viruses
Either pay for the next year if you like Kapersky, or
